Funding enabling the acquisition of La Synagogue and Saint Jean

In 2013, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art supported the fundraising campaign launched by the Louvre Museum for the acquisition of two statuettes from an ivory Descente de Croix, representing the Saint Jean and La Synagogue, dating from 1260-1280.

The work in ivory is composed of the group of the Virgin and Joseph of Arimathea supporting the body of Christ, the isolated statuette of the Church, a statuette of Nicodemus, only the two aforementioned statuettes were missing.
It is recognized that the group of La Descente de Croix is one of the flagship works of French Gothic art.
