Savoir et pouvoir dans l’Egypte des Ramsès, Khâemouaset, le prince archéologue
The Musée départemental Arles antique devotes this exhibition to Prince Khaemwaset, a cultivated leader from Ancient Egypt
Curator : Alain Charron
The high priest of the god Ptah in Memphis, Khaemwaset has become known to posterity as the first ‘archaeologist of history’ as he took an interest in the past by restoring the monuments of the Pharaohs of the Old Kingdom in the region between Giza and Saqqara.
Khaemwaset’s legacy was such that in the first century ADE, more than a millennium after his death, his feats continued to be extolled in the numerous legends and tales that spoke of his actions and knowledge.
