Cleopatra VII Thea Philopator was the last queen of Egypt, a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, the mistress of Julius Caesar, and later the companion of Mark Antony. Her unusual life story made her a figure of legend. Despite the scarcity of historical sources, her love affairs and tragic end sparked fascination and her story quickly inspired writers and artists.
