Par tous les dieux !

From April 5 to September 28, 2025, the exhibition Par tous les dieux ! – jointly organised by the Musée de Normandie and the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art, as part of the Millennium celebrations of the city of Caen – invites visitors to discover famous or lesser-known gods who shaped Antiquity and continue to fascinate today.

CURATORS: SANDRINE BERTHELOT, XAVIER DROUX, JEAN-MARIE LEVESQUE, JEAN-YVES MARIN, ISABELLE TASSIGNON

Whether it’s the wonderful ancient myths told at bedtime, comic books, or music, the ancient gods are everywhere. But are they truly familiar to us?

Par tous les dieux! is a journey into the world of Greek and Roman gods, through more than 200 objects on display. In addition to works from the collections of the Musée de Normandie, the exhibition features nearly 80 works from the Gandur Foundation for Art and numerous loans from museums in the North-West of France.

Thus, the public is invited to a summit meeting on Mount Olympus, with Jupiter, Bacchus, and many other gods who fascinated the Gallo-Romans. Egyptian gods are also part of the exhibition, as they were sometimes adopted by the Romans and Gallo-Romans. How were these gods perceived by Celtic populations who did not feel the need to represent their gods in human form, and in what ways were they depicted? The question of their reception in the north-west of France is also central to the exhibit, presenting a dialogue between objects from public collections and others from a private collection.
