1960-1975

The catalog Années pop, années choc, 1960-1975 accompanies the exhibition presented from June 22 to December 31, 2023 at the Mémorial de Caen. It covers the pivotal period of the 1960s and 1970s, between geopolitical tensions during the Cold War and social transformations in the wake of May 68. Directed by Yan Schubert, curator of the fine art collection and co-curator of the exhibition, whose texts appear alongside those of Joël Bruneau, Jean Claude Gandur and Lucie Pfeiffer, the book unveils all 69 works of narrative figuration, from the Fondation Gandur pour l'Art, and objects from the Mémorial de Caen.

Built around artworks of the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art and collections of the Mémorial de Caen, the catalogue published along the exhibition Années pop, années choc, 1960-1975 [Years of Pop and Shock, 1960-1975] draws back to fifteen decisive years of upheaval. Amidst political and ideological confrontations, and social struggle, the title is an invitation to to take a new look at the Cold War through the gaze of artists of the figuration narrative, from Vietnam, Cuba, and May 68 to equality among women and men.
