Libres Figurations - Années 80

Bringing together over 50 artists and some 200 artworks, Libres Figurations - Années 80 showcases a non-academic, often provocative form of art, with strong links to the worlds of rock, punk and comic books

Curator : Pascale Le Thorel

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, an art movement developed all over the world under different names: it was known as Figuration libre in France (Rémi Blanchard, François Boisrond, Robert Combas, Herve Di Rosa, Catherine Viollet ...); ‘Graffiti’ in the United States (Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Kenny Scharf ...); ‘Neue Wilde Malerei’ (Elvira Bach, Luciano Castelli, Rainer Fetting, Normal Group, Salomé...) in Germany; and as the ‘New Artists’ in the USSR (Afrika, Timur Novikov, Oleg Kotelnikov), etc.

This exhibition presents the different episodes of this history and bears witness to the period through painting, sculpture, film, video, photography and archival documents
