A mullet, a cutlet, and an odd torpedo-fish…
The Fondation Gandur pour l’Art is custodian of a beautiful fish plate produced in Taranto, around 340 BCE. Adorned with a silent trio composed of a mullet, a cutlet and a torpedo-fish floating on the darkness of the seabed, it stands out with some discreet, but nevertheless tasty, fantasies of painter. Indeed, as you will see, these three guys are less innocent than they seem…

Former collection of Silvia Hurter Mani (1933-2009), from Zürich, in the ‘80; in 2004, with Jean-David Cahn; thence sold by Jean-David Cahn at Bonham’s 20th October 2004 sale; further then sold to Bonham’s London, the 29th October 2005, lot 165; finally in Gil and Myrna Goldfine’s collection, Tel Aviv. Bought by the FGA, the 29th April 2010 at Christie’s London, sale 5487, lot 215.
